Voice Lessons
The studio space was designed to encourage musicians to feel confident, supported, and comfortable while evoking a feeling that music is special. The acoustics in the room were created with a young singer in mind. The Kawai grand piano was chosen specifically for this space.
Marjorie’s vocal training and teaching philosophy draws upon healthy technique-building that reduces tension and stress in the voice, which ultimately achieves a healthy, resonant tone. This is not a quick process. Time and practice of these techniques instill good habits and replace tendencies that inhibit good singing.
Marjorie’s voice students typically range in age from 11-70. Even though Marjorie is classically trained, she recognizes that may not appeal to all singers. Marjorie’s students work on music for auditions for choirs and plays, church solos, pop music, contemporary worship lead singing, Disney songs, classical music, or whatever they are interested in learning.

Virtual lessons (FaceTime or Skype) are offered for long distance, traveling, busy, or contagious (without pain in throat, head, etc.) singers. If school is cancelled due to weather, virtual lessons are an option with priority going to regularly scheduled students. Virtual lessons may be added to ease anxiety for anyone feeling nervous about an upcoming audition.

Make-up or extra lessons are offered at times communicated at the start of each semester in writing. Marjorie accommodates whenever possible during professional development days, E-Days, and holidays.

* Piano lessons at any level are strongly recommended for any student wishing to study music in college.

Why the age ranges?

11 is the youngest age Marjorie typically accepts for voice/singing lessons, although on occasion younger students are accepted following a successful audition. For children younger than 11, choir is the best place to learn pitch-matching, agility, singing against different parts, and music vocabulary. Youth choir also provides early instruction for how to use the voice properly while having fun. Most children before the age of 10-11 do not have the lung capacity, coordination for breathing techniques, and are not ready for the discipline of healthy vocal technique.
